Henry F. Finke Jr. (1925-2016)
With a heavy heart, Calvary Cemetery Association and its Board of Trustees, sends its deepest condolences to the Finke family at the passing of Harry Finke, Jr. Harry served as a trustee of Calvary for 51 years, 46 years as President. During his time at Calvary, he designed and oversaw most building and renovation projects. Some of Harry’s notable achievements at Calvary include the construction of Spirit of the Living Waters Cremation Garden and the restoration of St. Henry’s Memorial Chapel, first constructed in 1902. According to Rick Meade, Executive Director of Calvary Cemetery, “Harry has left a tremendous legacy on the footprint of Calvary Cemetery through his leadership and guidance for land, building, infrastructure improvements, and new development over the course of his tenure.”
A graduate of Chaminade High School, the University of Dayton, and Notre Dame V-12 program of the Naval Reserves, Harry was an engineer by trade who operated Finke Construction Company, and, later served as a Chief Inspector for the Miami Conservancy District. Harry will be missed by many, including current board members and friends of Calvary. William Frapwell, current President of Calvary Cemetery, remembered Harry fondly, “Harry Finke was a giant in the history of Calvary Cemetery. Through his leadership of 46 years, Harry created what Calvary is today, a true Dayton landmark.”
Harry, may the angels lead you into paradise; may the martyrs come to welcome you and take you to the holy city, the new and eternal Jerusalem. May choirs of angels welcome you and lead you to the bosom of Abraham; and where Lazarus is poor no longer may you find eternal rest.
