Angels posture and expressions often convey a message of wistful memory or divine hope. Angels are often the silent guardians set to watch over the resting place of departed loved ones. Angels are listed in order of section.
The Elliff angel is located in Section 25. The first Elliff was buried here in 1890. The angel is standing against a cross with her right arm above her head. She is looking down at a small ring of flowers in sweet memory of the departed.
The Breidenbach angel is located in Section 25. She is standing in front of a large cross holding a lily (the sign of the hope of the resurrection) in her right hand looking over the graves below.
Louise Saup was buried with her angel statue in Section 14 in 1892. The angel is young looking, indicating the young age at which she died. She is holding a bouquet of flowers in her left hand against her body as if the scatter the blossoms protectively over them.
The first Deis to be buried under this angel died in 1860 and was reinterred here from old St Henry’s cemetery in Section 14. The angel is holding a roll of papers, maybe representing the gospel or the list of good works done by Deis in her right hand against her chest and is looking heavenward.
The Barlow angel is located in Section 14. The first Barlow to be buried here was in 1892. The angel has her right hand in front of her body and his looking up to the sky.
Sebastian Demphle was buried in Calvary in 1910. This angel, located in Section 14, is holding a small cross against her chest looking to the sky.
Clarence Koester was buried in Section 14 under this angel statue in 1891. The angel is pointing up to the sky with her right hand while holding a large cross in her left hand. The cross has a strand of flowers wrapped around it.
The Clemens angel statue is located in Section 14. Nicholas was the first family member buried underneath it in 1877. Many other family members are buried with him as well. The angel is a child with her arm around a small cross.
Florence Sherlock was buried in Section 15 of Calvary in 1890. The angel is holding a bag in her left hand and is scattering flowers with her right.
The first Haberer family member to be buried under this angel was in 1880. Located in Section 1, this angel is pointing to the sky with her right hand and is looking downward.
Erhard Baumann was buried underneath this angel statue located in Section 1 in 1894. The angel has a comforting feel, as it appears she is stepping down from the clouds holding flowers in the front of her robes, calmly looking downwards.
Agnes Wagner was buried in Section 1 in 1899 underneath a very uplifting looking angel. She is standing tall, reaching to the sky with her right hand. She gazes upwards with a very hopeful look on her face.
The first member of the Fey family to be buried in Calvary was Christina in 1913. The angel statue she is buried under is located in Section 1. This particular statue actually has two angels. One is a young girl looking towards the sky. The child is holding hands with what appears to be her mother, who is standing behind her. The mother is looking down onto the child holding her right hand in front of her body, almost in a protective sense.
Nicholas T. Lause was buried underneath this angel statue in 1918, located in Section 1. This angel has a serious yet calming look to her as she wraps a strand of flowers around a cross she is looking down on.
In 1893 Gustavius Zobrist was buried beneath this angel statue located in Section 1. This angel is reading a book that is propped on her knee. The book may represent the book of life, the Bible.
In 1891 Balthasar Greulich was buried underneath an angel statue in Section 13. The angel is pointing to the sky with her right hand while a large cross leans against her body. The cross has a few flowers wrapped around it. The angels face has a serious look on it.
The first Kinninger to be buried in Calvary was Andrew in 1882. This angel statue that he rests under is located in Section 13. The angel has her arm around a cross and is resting her head on it. Her eyes are closed as if she is remembering Kinninger.
Lillian Kloos was buried under this angel statue in 1954, followed by her husband Philip J. in 1965. This statue is located in Section 12. The angel appears to be stepping down from the sky. She has a calming look to her face and her hands are in front of her chest as if she is praying.
