Montgomery County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society Tour
June 1 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Join the Montgomery County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society and Calvary Cemetery on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 1:00pm, for the second of four tours scheduled for 2024.
These tours are designed for the purpose of telling the stories of the people who built and contributed to Dayton and Montgomery County. Who were they and what did they do?
The Calvary Cemetery tour, hosted by the MCC-OGS, will take visitors to various areas of the cemetery and stop at specific gravesites to highlight a person or family to tell the story of what they did during their lifetime.
Calvary is one of the older cemeteries on this tour and has more of a religious focus as a Catholic-based cemetery. We’ll learn how St. Henry’s Chapel got its name and some interesting examples of the cemetery merger that happened which affects genealogy research today.
Visitors on the tour will visit the gravesites of prominent businessmen, religious leaders and those heavily involved in the community during their lifetime..
Calvary Cemetery is a great example of how the past meets the present with a number of families who were buried there when it opened and still have those buried there today. We’ll explore how close-knit the community was and still is with people who worked together to make the area a better place.
Calvary is also a great example of how cemeteries and churches play an important role in genealogy research.
